The Argentina midfielder has attracted interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid in recent weeks, and reports suggest that he may be on his way to the Anfield exit door if the Reds are able to land a suitable replacement
Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton has been identified as a key target by the Liverpool hierarchy, although they are also determined to pursue a move for Neves amid his immense form for PSG.
The 21-year-old helped Luis Enrique’s side win the Champions League for the very first time during his debut campaign at the club last year, while he has continued to impress this term, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 24 games across all competitions.
Real Madrid are understood to be watching his progress closely, but Liverpool are currently leading the race for his signature as things stand, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Joao Neves to join Liverpool?
Neves currently boasts an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €71.8 million – the seventh highest of any player in the PSG squad – but Liverpool will reportedly be required to pay a record-breaking fee of €150m to secure his services this summer.
PSG have no intention of allowing the Portugal superstar to depart the club ahead of next season, however Fichajes claim that a bid of €150m may tempt Luis Enrique’s side into a sale.
Furthermore, it’s reported that Liverpool are planning to match this figure – which would make Neves the most expensive player in Premier League history.
